About the workThe plate is made using the mosaic glass technique. This involves bundling different coloured, thick, short glass rods, fusing them in the furnace and pulling them out long. If this process is repeated several times, finer and finer patterns can be created. The resulting rod is then cut into slices, laid out as a mosaic and fused into a vessel. In this case, the Venini glassworks limited itself to colourless and red glass; the patterns seem to float in the glass like enigmatic characters.
