About the workThe surface treatment of this vase may have been inspired by contemporary metalwork. Even in the early days from 1921, the glassworks operator Cappellin advocated a coating with metallic gases, which was barely noticeable at the time and gave the glass a play of colours similar to an oil film. The simple egg shape requires great skill to produce. It recurs frequently in Cappellin’s artistic programme. At the time, Carlo Scarpa was working as an architect and designer for the glassworks, but it is often not possible to precisely attribute the designs.
