About the workThis lidded bowl creates the impression that it is an Asian vessel studded with gold settings for precious stones. Depending on the way the light falls, it can make the gilding shine or the small ruby red glass crystals glow. The spiral cut lends these inlays a naturalistic element, as if they were fossils. The glass artist Émile Gallé used traditional glass decoration techniques to experiment with contemporary understandings of art, nature and otherness.
