on display, room G 05 About the workThese wine glasses, designed by the Viennese architect and designer Otto Prutscher, embody the transition from the whimsical designs of Art Nouveau to a more restrained aesthetic characterised by clear forms and colours. The finely articulated stem is reminiscent of architectural elements. Together with the precisely crafted cut of the bowl, it lends the glasses an elegant, almost graphic quality. Prutscher initially worked as an independent architect before beginning, in 1907, to design furniture and glassware for the Wiener Werkstätte, an Austrian association of artists and craftspeople founded in 1903.
