About the workThis simply shaped bowl imitates the plumage of the guinea fowl. To achieve this, special coloured glass had to be heated together and drawn out into rods. Slices of these could then be fused together as a mosaic and picked up with the glassmaker’s pipe to form the vessel. “La faraona” is the Italian name for the guinea fowl. It was once thought to have been bred for the first time in Ancient Egypt, which is probably why it was called the “Pharaoh”.
