on display, room 006.1 About the workThe etcher Karl Koepping had become famous for his prints after great painters before he turned his attention to glass art for almost ten years. His delicate designs caused an international sensation and came to epitomise Art Nouveau around 1900. Koepping responded to criticism of his overly fragile works with somewhat more stable glass, including this goblet. It was blown at the Ilmenau glass school. The colourful and “dirty” surface design is characteristic for Koepping's glassware.
