About the workThe bright colour contrast of this vase is unusual for the designs of Vittorio Zecchin. The universal artist was responsible for the artistic programme of the glass company founded by Giacomo Cappellin together with Paolo Venini in 1921. The clear forms, sparse decoration and restrained colouring stood out from the usual production in Murano at the time and led the island’s glass art into the modern age. However, one art critic considered the earliest designs to be too “frigid” and it seems that Zecchin set clearer accents in response.
