About the workJoseph looks in amazement at the Magi who are worshipping Jesus in Bethlehem. Joseph, a carpenter, is married to Mary, the Mother of God. During the nativity of Jesus, he is at the periphery, and the birth of the Son of God is incomprehensible to him. In this role he became an important example for believers. The pane is an original from the northern nave of Cologne Cathedral. During restoration in the nineteenth century, damaged panes were replaced by copies. In the copy, Joseph was depicted slightly differently, namely without the cap.
