Glass, pigment wooden sticks from the rake

not on displayThe theme of the body plays an important role in the work of Dutch artist Maria Roosen. For this work, she uses a distinctive technique in which she spreads hot, molten glass across a surface – one layer mixed with pigments, the other colourless. She then joins the two layers with a rake. This creates the impression of dark blood flowing through a transparent skeleton. But appearances are deceptive: once the glass has hardened, the compressed body part remains cold and frozen in place.
