not on displayWith this bag, Balenciaga adopted in 2017 the design of the well-known blue IKEA shopping bag "Frakta". The Parisian fashion label transformed the inexpensive everyday object into a luxury leather accessory – at a price of around 2,000 euros. What initially seems like a gimmick is part of a long tradition of art and fashion movements that play with everyday objects, raising the question: does the value lie in the design, or does the brand determine the value? At the same time, the bag reflects the mechanisms of global consumer culture, in which the boundaries between original and copy, luxury and mass-produced goods are becoming increasingly blurred.
