on display, room 023T. Lux Feininger painted this portrait based on a photograph he took of Liesel Henneberger on the roof of the Bauhaus in Dessau. As a student at this art college, he felt an unrequited love for the woman depicted. He often used his own snapshots as the basis for his paintings. In 1936, the artist emigrated to the United States to escape the Nazi regime. This personal work seems like a foreshadowing of farewell: due to political persecution, Feininger, who was of Jewish descent, had to leave his homeland.
