on displayUnfortunately, the identity of the person depicted by Marie Wiegmann is unknown. The subject’s hairstyle and clothing correspond to the fashion of the 1860s. The rose in her hand was a popular motif in portraits of young women – it symbolises feminine youth, beauty and grace. Such works were an expression of social status and highly valued in wealthy families. This painting was acquired by the Kunstpalast in 2025 at auction.
