About the workKonrad Lueg humorously held up a mirror to post-war West German society. He looked behind the façade of the economic miracle years and spotlighted the superficialities of bourgeois everyday life. The Düsseldorf artist placed ordinary objects in the centre of his pictures, either cropped and enlarged or as patterns. Using bright colours, he presented sausages as a symbol of consumerism and coat hangers as representatives of everyday routines. The interlaced fingers of praying hands addressed the role of faith in people’s lives. Lueg mostly used casein colours, also known as plaka colours, for his paintings. In combination with the simplified motifs, these bright, quick-drying colours convey the impression of advertising posters.
