About the workArchitectural tools take on an aesthetic life of their own in Rita McBride's photographs. The stencils, made of coloured plastic, are actually used to transform sketch-like designs into precise and regular drawings. They thus engage with questions of standardisation in construction processes. McBride enlarges the industrially produced template so that it becomes detached from its original purpose. The relationship between function and form is at the heart of the artist's work, who is primarily known for her sculptures and installations.
