About the workHow long can you stay away from the place of your origin without becoming alienated? Ilkin Guliyev dedicates his series 'Long Overdue' to his home country, Azerbaijan. He returned to the capital, Baku, in the summer of 2021, following the travel restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. With an artistic and documentary eye, he explored his own relationship with people, landscapes and objects. Past and present meet in the photographs. In an intimate visual language, they tell of the detachment from the country of origin, of the struggle between proximity and distance that accompanies many migration stories.
