About the workThe works of Estonian artist Jaanus Samma locate queer perception and desires in seemingly heteronormative, often public spaces. "Flaminio Station III" explores the history of cruising locations in Rome, the meeting places for homosexuals in search of a sex partner. In the title of the work, the artist refers to a public toilet in the Flaminio district, which is recognisable by ist distinctive yellow tiles. Samma has transferred the inscriptions from these toilet walls onto similar tiles and presents them behind a curtain of old-fashioned rubber toilet handles to address themes such as sex, fetish and secretive communication.
