About the workThe phallus-like structure is only held up by thin ribbons. The work of Berlin-based painter Oska Gutheil revolves around gender roles, self-perception and the perception of others. Fantasy creatures embodying fears, doubts and hopes come together in often (nightmarish) dreamlike situations. The artist, who was born as Stefanie Gutheil, relies on bizarre and humorous elements – as in this picture of the absence of potency and the means to restore it.
