About the workMalgorzata Mirga-Tas sees herself as a feminist artist and as the voice of the Roma. In the tapestry, she focuses on the power and identity of women and their significance within European society as a transcultural community that lives across national borders. The fabrics used are items of clothing that she collects from her people and reassembles using patchwork techniques. In her work, she makes narrative references to historical Italian and French tapestries.
