About the workIf one looks at the individual pictures of the three-part work from left to right, the number of coloured fields increases steadily until a uniform order becomes visible. The human eye perceives the irregularities in the pattern as apparent imperfections, which Fritz Klingbeil plays with. The Berlin-born artist lived in Düsseldorf from 1964 to 2001. During this time, he limited his compositions to what he considered essential: the colours black, white and red as well as the shape of the rectangle and the cuboid.
