About the workChaos and structure formed the starting point for this work by Cologne-based artist Georg Schmidt. The tense opposites unfold as a colourful “force field” in the picture. It is created by the contrast between free brushwork and controlled choice of pigments: blue-green and red-orange combine to create a strong visual vitality. The title relates this energy to the Higgs field in physics. According to the theory, this field invisibly permeates the universe and gives elementary particles their mass – similarly, the colours enhance the effect of this painting.
