not on displayThe shame of hair – Julian Westermann’s work is an examination of body politics and gender issues. The artificial hair attached to the bodysuit provocatively addresses the influence of the fashion world on the ever-increasing pressure for a supposedly perfect body. Natural pubic hair around the upper thighs thus not only peeps out – it protrudes magnificently into the centre of attention. The question of who or what is supposed to conform is at the heart of this work of Westermann’s, who graduated from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 2022.
