About the workOf the two sketched nudes, the reclining woman, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s muse Dodo, is particularly eye-catching. The suggested mirror in the background doubles her presence. The drawing is reminiscent of the “Viertelstundenakte” (Quarter-Hour Nudes), in which the artist spontaneously captured models in casual poses. “Zwei weibliche Akte” (Two Female Nudes) was created in Dresden while Kirchner was a member of the artists’ group Die Brücke, to which Erich Heckel and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff also belonged. They worked in a communal studio, often with the same subjects in front of them.
