About the workThis decorative leaf comes from a Christian book of hours, a highly personalised book containing daily prayers. In the centre of the image, King David kneels in prayer while the prophet Nathan reminds him of his transgressions. In the background is David as a young man fighting against the giant warrior Goliath, whom he was able to defeat with a slingshot due to his faith in God. This picture is followed by the so-called penitential psalms, which are attributed to King David. They are used by worshippers to express their sinfulness and to ask God for forgiveness.
