on display, room 025 About the workJulio González was one of the first sculptors to make works from iron using welding equipment. He wrote: “To create and draw in space with the help of new tools, to utilise this space and to work with it as if it were a recently acquired material – this is the aim of all my endeavours.” The figure of Venus offered him a starting point for exploring the relationship between object and space. With his sculptures, González straddled the border between the representation of reality and abstraction.
