About the workUnder the motto "Build your own houses", a week-long protest action took place on the square in front of the theatre from 19 to 26 September 1970. The event was a mixture of demonstration, information and creative action. Cardboard houses were erected and exploitative landlord practices were denounced on posters. Chris Reinecke devised solutions for citizens to avoid exorbitant rents. The Düsseldorf-based filmmaker Lutz Mommartz recorded the protest in the documentary "Mietersolidarität" ("Tenant’s Solidarity").
