on display, room 020 About the workDue to the housing shortage after the Second World War, there was initially a nationwide rent control for historic buildings in the Federal Republic of Germany. This was gradually abolished starting in 1960 through the introduction of so-called "white districts", in which rent control did not apply. Mietersolidarität Düsseldorf (Tenant’s Solidarity Düsseldorf), which Chris Reinecke co-founded, collected 26,000 signatures for a referendum to abolish the "white circles" and reintroduce statutory rent protection. At the end of 1970, Chris Reinecke campaigned on behalf of hard-pressed migrant worker families, particularly in Werstener Feld.
