About the workIn 1983, the DynaTAC 8000X from American electronics company Motorola was the first commercial mobile telephone. Back in 1973, the designer Rudy Krolopp had begun developing a device with integrated dialling, speaking and listening functions; its appearance was reminiscent of a radiotelephone. For this phone to function, a new mobile network also had to be installed, which took a long time. Back then, the mobile phone weighed 794 grams, cost 3995 US dollars and – thanks to a rechargeable battery – could be used for calls lasting up to one hour. The first mobile phone in Germany, the Motorola International 3200, was only launched in 1992.
