on display, room 005.1 About the workVivian Greven has captured the intimate contact between two faces in delicate hues. The flawless, stiff bodies are reminiscent of marble statues. The smooth surfaces and soft shading, on the other hand, evoke digital imagery. In her “Vira” series, the Düsseldorf artist has transferred the sensual works of Italian sculptor Antonio Canova onto canvas. In the process, the boundaries between two- and three-dimensionality have become blurred. The simulated depth of the painting is interrupted by raised colour surfaces and hemispheres of acrylic paint.
