About the workSeven colours – yellow, red, black, green, pink, brown, silver – and a layout defined by zigzag lines: the Danish artist Tal R chose these parameters for his series of seven linocuts titled “Zig versus Zag” as a means of exploring and experimenting with line drawings and forms. During his time as a visiting professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he carved these shapes and words – appearing backwards due to the printing process – into linoleum plates without looking, so that the first time that he saw the results was on the mirror film. The element of chance thus became part of the work.
