Place of originBavaria-Swabia
About the workSince the Middle Ages, women in the Bavarian-Swabian region would put on this headdress for the first time on their wedding day. A unique feature is the wheel-shaped attachment made of wire covered with gold-coloured, embroidered lace. The bonnet itself is tied with wide lace ribbons that end in long waves at the back of the head. Until the early twentieth century, these hats were worn exclusively by wealthy women in the country or women of lower-ranking nobility on holidays, for going to church or for portraits; nowadays they are part of maintaining local traditions.
