About the workThe term “Goldhaube” is used for various women’s bonnets that are part of traditional costumes in Austria and southern Germany. In the seventeenth century, these hats were first worn by bourgeois women in cities and later by wealthy women in the countryside. These headdresses have been part of folk culture since the 1810s. Many contemporary portraits prove that these gold bonnets were particularly popular with well-off women from farming and artisanal backgrounds in the nineteenth century.
