About the workNicholas Warburg critically examines the German past. This installation explores the evolution of right-wing extremist imagery. The artist arranged pictures of artworks as well as newspaper photographs and advertisements according to recurring patterns and themes. They revolve around notions of the “perfect” society, from people to the family to attitudes and their expression in art or architecture. He adopted this approach from the art and cultural theorist Aby Warburg – no relative of his – and his “Picture Atlas Mnemosyne” from the 1920s.
