About the work“When I find things that are used, they already have a history,” said the artist Thomas Virnich in 1985, shortly after graduating from the Düsseldorf Art Academy. In 1989 he added: “I have always been more interested in the process, or where something comes from, where it’s going, rather than just the static element.” The components of this work have visibly been through a lot. By combining lead and glass in a crude state, Virnich also alludes to alchemy, the art of transformation.
