About the workYva was born as Else Ernestine Neuländer in a middle-class Jewish family in Berlin in 1900. She was one of the first and most successful women in fashion and portrait photography. Her work received international recognition and was featured in exhibitions throughout Europe. Because of her Jewish background, Yva was persecuted by the National Socialist regime and was banned from working in 1938. In 1942 she was arrested and deported. She likely died that year in the Majdanek concentration camp in what was then occupied Poland.
