About the workNuclear fission and radioactivity have preoccupied the Düsseldorf-based artist Helmut Schweizer since his school days. In his works, chemical substances evoke the fascination and hazardous nature of technology. In 1969 he created two bodies out of transparent foil. Ammonia in the “cloud” refers to the oversaturation of waters with nitrogen. Uranine, a harmless dye, makes the "mountain" shine. The glass design was executed in collaboration with the Venetian glassmaker Pino Signoretto, who helped many artists to realise their ideas in glass.
