About the workThe Roman goddess Minerva is depicted here with various attributes: the laurel wreath and owl identify her as the patron saint of the arts and wisdom, while armour, flags and the trophies at her feet indicate that she is the goddess of the art of war. In his Düsseldorf workshop, Grupello not only created official “state art”, but also small-format sculptures inspired by antiquity – such as this one – for the private chambers of Elector Johann Wilhelm.
