About the workThe Irish designer Eileen Gray became internationally known in 1925 for her collection of furniture made from tubular steel and glass, which includes this side table. Still produced today, the series embodies innovation and a pioneering spirit, putting Gray on a par with the artists of the Bauhaus and De Stijl. After studying art in London, she went to Paris in 1902, where she learned Japanese lacquering techniques, among other things. Inspired by Asian aesthetics and modernism, Gray designed her first pieces of furniture, which she presented at the Paris Salon of Decorative Arts in 1913.
