About the workImi Knoebel’s works play with the perception of surfaces and spaces. By layering and combining colour fields, the Düsseldorf artist explores the effect of hues and shapes on different materials. For this installation, Imi Knoebel has assembled hollow aluminium rods and monochrome painted panels made of the same material to form a corner of a room. He has thus assigned a new function to the two-dimensional painted surface: it becomes a design element that sets its own accents and restructures the room.
