About the workAs chronicled in the Bible, John the Seer received a vision of God’s plan for the destruction and restoration of the world. A seven-headed monster and a beast with lamb horns have set out to seduce people. However, help is already approaching in the form of a cross-bearing angel sent by God. The Nuremberg artist Albrecht Dürer created a sequence of images for a new edition of the text, known as the "Book of Revelation" or the "Apocalypse of John". They are distinguished by a fineness of line that was hitherto unprecedented in the medium of woodcut.
