About the workAlthough the black decorative elements are made of glass, they look like metal mountings. Like his father, Umberto Bellotto was in fact an ironsmith and in 1910, together with the architect Cesare Laurenti, developed a process for combining iron and glass. In 1928, he became an interior decorator for the National Fascist Party in Rome under the dictator Benito Mussolini, also the son of a blacksmith. In the previous years, he had designed the glassware for Pauly & C.. The trading company acted as a “publisher” of Venetian glass art.
