About the workThere are 1,900 kilometres between Iittala, a glassworks location in Finland, and the lagoon island of Murano. Despite the distance, there have been exchanges since the 1930s. Tapio Wirkkala, Finland’s most influential designer, worked for the Iittala glassworks from 1946 to 1985. His designs for Venini in the 1960s are among the glassworks’ most successful models. The series title “Coreani” probably alludes to the Korean “Taegeuk” symbol, which—similar to the yin-and-yang concept—stands for opposites and appears in the Korean flag.
