Smoke-coloured vase with straight handles, 1920s
Lightly smoke-coloured glass, blown
(H x Ø)30,5 x 14,1 cm
Place of originMurano
About the workThe vase is a reaction to the success of the V.S.M. Cappellin, Venini & C. glassworks. With the designs of the artist Vittorio Zecchin, the latter had been launching “naked” glasses with clear outlines on the market since 1921, which were free of all the decoration customary in Murano. Zecchin’s greatest success was an egg-shaped vase modelled on a painting by Paolo Veronese from around 1580, which remains his trademark to this day. The egg shape is extremely difficult to blow and is elongated here. However, the straight handles create an elegant balance.
