About the workUnder the lasting shadow of the First World War, Lotte Prechner created socially critical linocuts that focused on the suffering population. The German artist worked her figures out of the blackened ground using white lines – a simple method that does not allow for any color gradations. In 1938, the art critic Robert L. Delvoy attested to the artist's ability to achieve maximum effect with minimum means. Alongside her prints, Prechner published articles in the Catholic workers' newspaper "Der Feuerreiter", in which she denounced social grievances.
