About the workRadio played a central role in the propaganda strategy of the National Socialists. The VE 301 Volksempfänger, introduced in 1933, was specifically developed as an affordable mass medium. Building on this success, the regime launched the even cheaper DKE 38 German small receiver in 1938. Popularly known as the "Goebbelsschnauze" – an allusion to the then Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels – the devices were technically reduced to the essentials and kept simple in design.
