Woman in Morning Clothes

About the workAustrian artist Gustav Klimt’s talent for drawing is revealed here: he has realised the subject’s head with great care, while her body, with flowing, curved lines, remains indistinct. The woman’s gaze, which looks at us directly, has something sensual but also absent about it. Klimt drew numerous portraits of women around the turn of the century, which often served as templates for his paintings. This drawing was published under the title “Dame im Morgengewande” (Woman in Morning Clothes) in the Austrian Art Nouveau magazine “Ver Sacrum” in 1899.
