About the workA picture is worth a thousand words: Cornelius Völker draws attention to the extraordinary within the ordinary. For his works, the Düsseldorf-based artist stages familiar motifs from everyday life. With a blank sheet of paper as his subject here, the artist alludes to a long-held understanding of the human spirit: even in antiquity, newly born souls were visualised as a blank page or slate that would only be filled with impressions and experiences over time. In light of this, Völker’s painting can be interpreted as the start of a life story.
