on display, room 030 About the workLotte Jacobi came from a German-Jewish family of photographers. She had to flee from the National Socialists in 1935 and went into exile in New York. There she became known for her portraits of the international art and cultural scene. At the end of the 1940s, she turned to non-representational photography and created pictures without the use of a camera. She used pieces of glass and twisted cellophane to refract the rays of a torch placed over photographic paper. Jacobi collected the resulting abstract images and landscapes under the title 'Photogenics'.
