on display, room 025 About the workHugo Schmölz was a leading architectural photographer in the 1920s and 1930s. Even during the National Socialist era, he documented historical and contemporary buildings throughout the country on behalf of the manufacturing and construction industries. Early in his career he developed an exposure technique for taking detailed photographs of dark interiors. In these views of a building by the Düsseldorf architect Bernhard Pfau, Schmölz highlighted the characteristics of the architecture of Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity), which contrasts interestingly with the portrait of Adolf Hitler.
