About the workThroughout the evolution of photography, the joy of experimentation has often been at the centre. László Moholy-Nagy didn’t need a camera. The professor at the Bauhaus art school in Weimar and his wife Lucia – whose contribution is only gradually receiving the appreciation it deserves – placed objects on chemically treated paper and exposed it to light. The outlines of objects or even the profiles of their own heads emerged. Moholy-Nagy called the result a “photogram”: a combination of “photograph” and “telegram”.
