About the workFrom comprehensive city views to inconspicuous details: at the turn of the century, Eugène Atget documented his adopted city of Paris down to its minutiae. He wanted to compile a delicate visual catalogue of architectural and everyday photographs. With a large format camera, he captured streetscapes, plants, interiors, shops and the people of Paris. Tourists and collectors bought his images, while painters and sculptors used them as models for their own works.
